Hustlepalooza was filled with, you know, hustlers and standout performances from Skyzoo and GLC; Freddie Gibbs sipped Hennessey on the rocks and spoke candidly to ATG about the game's perils; weather turned grey and murky and cold as Bone Thugz returned to rock the Fader Fort; the Lawyers 4 Musicians Party at Ace's, in its sophomore inception, jammed out with Kidz In the Hall and The Cool Kids although the Dilated Peoples delegate canceled; Mos Def energized sympathizers at Red Bull Thre3Style, an open air block party; I didn't get into Perez Hilton's party either.

Day one of the big dance and the gang's all around: elder statesman from the major markets, reunited Texans, internet hype dudes testing cross-over waters for the first time. It's a playful, hopeful atmosphere around Austin as South by Southwest's overpowering, circuit-breaking music portion revs up.

It's Christmas party season; two weeks of offices and acquaintances throwing shindigs. At least 64% of these affairs offer state-sanctioned spirits. Generally, the pressure and awkwardness of these confrontations severely detracts from their enjoyability. Next weekend there's three on my Google Calendar but I just want to hole up in a mancave and futilely watch NFL Network.

Kidz in the Hall come through with this very welcome early Christmas gift in the form of a new mixtape, featuring the excellent leaked singles "Jukebox" and "Flickin'" along with a bunch of other fresh cuts. Our resume says we speak "Intermediate French," so we feel qualified to look up the English translation of the title and confirm that it means "The Professional Leisure Tour." As usual, the "Stimulus" tag translates to "Don't miss." Tracklist and download after the jump.

Damn. I've been following these guys since I saw them at SXSW '08, and The In Crowd was cool and all, but this and "Flickin'" have me feelin' like The Land of Make Believe could be fire. Much to my chagrin, then, that Naledge and Double O recently announced the album had been pushed back to Feb. 2010. Oh well, it's gonna be a crowded 4th quarter, anyway.

Word on the street is that Kidz are dropping a FreEP Oct. 27th, which sounds great to us. We'll keep you posted.

Momo's is a jazz/blues/folk kind of establishment and it rests directly above Katzy's Deli, so there's really no good excuse for missing this one other than, say, it's kind of a walk from your downtown base.
